Infraline Energy along with Mercados Energy Markets India Private Limited conducted a three day workshop on ‘Power Markets in India’ on October 29-31, 2009 at Hotel JW Marriott in Mumbai. The workshop was led by renowned energy markets experts viz., Mr Roberto D'Addario, Mercados (core competence international expert on Markets, Regulation, Restructuring and Public Policy Areas), Mr Anish De, CEO, Mercados (core competence market design and reform and restructuring related issues in the electricity sector), Dr Shreevardhan Soman, Professor, IIT Mumbai (core competence analysis of Power System Economics, Computation, Modelling and Optimization) and Dr Puneet Chitkara, Principal, Mercados (core competence operation and management of restructured power systems and economics of regulation). SARI/Energy sponsored 11 participants to participate in this program.

The focus was to equip industry professionals with the right understanding and skills to manage the complexities and risks of the electricity trading market in India. The workshop aimed to deliberate on the entire set of issues relating to functioning of the power markets, how market participants operate in such markets and the avenues to maximise the gains in such markets. The primary course objective was to create a better understanding of:

  • The development and major issues in power market in India
  • The Indian electricity market platforms
  • The drivers and dynamics of power prices
  • The different instruments that are being traded
  • Trading and hedging strategies of electricity derivatives and assets

The program was well received by the participants as the participants were from diverse background of the sector which led to fruitful discussions and lot of knowledge sharing during the workshop.
